Howard County General Hospital appoints new CMO

Howard County General Hospital has hired Mohammed Shafeeq Ahmed, MD, MBA, FACOG as its new vice president of medical affairs and CMO, effective July 11, according to the Columbia, Md. hospital.

Dr. Ahmed will serve as the hospital's designated medical safety and quality officer and will provide administrative oversight and service support for professional staff activities while continuing to practice obstetrics and gynecology part time in Howard County.

After receiving his medical and bachelor's degrees from Boston University, Dr. Ahmed completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baystate Medical Center, where he most recently served as COO and CMO of Baystate Health's Eastern Region in Springfield, Mass.

Prior to his tenure at Baystate, Dr. Ahmed was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Medical Corps and served as an attending obstetrician and gynecologist at the Naval Hospital  Cherry Point, N.C. Dr. Ahmed is a board-certified fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Ahmed was also recently included in Becker's Hospital Review's "100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know" in 2016.
