The Health Transformation Alliance, a group of 25 corporations, has appointed Glenn Steele Jr., MD, PhD, vice chairman.
Here are six things to know about Dr. Steele.
1. Dr. Steele has spent more than four decades in healthcare.
2. Most recently, he was president and CEO of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System.
3. He previously was the dean of the biological sciences division and the Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago and the vice president for medical affairs at the University of Chicago, as well as the Richard T. Crane Professor in the department of surgery.
4. Prior to that, he served in Boston as the William V. McDermott Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, president and CEO of Deaconess Professional Practice Group and chairman of the department of surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital.
5. He currently is chairman of xG Health Solutions, a Geisinger spinoff company.
6. In his newest role, he will help HTA bring change to the healthcare industry and improve the way healthcare benefits will be purchased for employees, the alliance said. Dr. Steele will provide his expertise to all major strategic decisions.
