Selena Mejia has been appointed assistant vice president of strategic communications for HCA Houston Healthcare, effective Oct. 11. She will lead internal and external communications for 16 HCA hospitals in Texas, according to an Oct. 8 news release shared with Becker's.
Ms. Mejia brings 25 years of marketing, journalism and public relations experience to her new role. She has served in multiple leadership positions since joining HCA Houston Healthcare in February 2015 and most recently served as senior director of strategic communications for the system's south region hospitals, the news release said.
"Selena has been an integral part of our communications team for several years, has played a key role in the rebranding of HCA Houston Healthcare's 13 area hospitals and has successfully handled a wide variety of projects that have come her way," said Sean Burnett, vice president of marketing and corporate affairs at HCA Houston Healthcare.
Before joining HCA, Ms. Mejia held a business development role with Houston-based Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and served as a public relations consultant for San Antonio-based Nix Health.
She is certified in crisis communication by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to the news release.
