Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) has announced the appointment of Michael G. Joseph, president of HCA's East Florida Division, to the Florida International University Board of Trustees, according to a news release from Fort Lauderdale-based HCA East Florida, a subsidiary of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America.
Here are three things to know about Mr. Joseph.
1. As president of HCA's East Florida Division, Mr. Joseph is responsible for 14 hospitals, a regional laboratory, 12 ambulatory surgery centers and five imaging centers located in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties.
2. Previously, Mr. Joseph served as CEO of University Hospital in Tamarac, Fla. Prior to his move to Tamarac, he was president of HCA's Southwest Florida Market in Fort Myers — which has since been divested. He also has served as president of Cedars Medical Center in Miami and Westside Regional Medical Center in Plantation, Fla. Prior to these roles, he served as interim CEO at Columbia Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla., and as COO at Aventura (Fla.) Hospital and Medical Center and at Miami Heart Institute.
3. Mr. Joseph's appointment took effect earlier this month.
