Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America has appointed Troy A. Villarreal president of HCA's Gulf Coast division, effective June 20.
Here are six things to know about Mr. Villarreal.
1. He replaces Maura Walsh, who recently announced her retirement.
2. In his new role, Mr. Villarreal will be responsible for 16 hospitals and various other freestanding facilities serving communities in Corpus Christi, Texas, the greater Houston area and south Texas.
3. Mr. Villarreal, a 23-year veteran of HCA, has served as CEO of HCA's Medical City Dallas Hospital since 2013. Med City Dallas is a full service tertiary care center with more than 660 beds and 1,150 affiliated physicians. It is the flagship hospital of HCA's North Texas Division.
4. Prior to leading Med City Dallas, he was CEO of HCA's Medical Center of Plano (Texas) for five years, where he oversaw a major facility upgrade. During his time at Medical Center of Plano, patient, physician and employee satisfaction increased, according to HCA.
5. Mr. Villarreal also previously was CEO of HCA's Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth (Texas), and COO of Med City Dallas.
6. Mr. Villarreal earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Texas A&M University, based in College Station, and two master's degrees — one in healthcare administration and another in business administration — from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (Texas).
