Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia appointed David R. Small interim CEO.
Ms. Small succeeds Michael P. Halter, who will retire April 14, ending a nearly 20-year tenure. In February, The Inquirer reported the new owners of the hospital, American Academic Health System, were going to replace several top executives, including Mr. Halter. The shake-up came six weeks after the company bought the hospital from Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.
Mr. Small is equipped with 40-plus years of healthcare experience, serving in executive roles at numerous organizations across the country, including Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospital System and Miami-based Jackson Health System.
"[Mr. Small's] focus as Hahnemann's interim CEO will be to utilize his wealth of knowledge to improve hospital operations, explore growth opportunities and collaborate with colleagues and physicians to advance the hospital," Barry Wolfman, president of the American Academic Health System wrote in a letter to Hahnemann University Hospital employees and medical staff.
