George Washington University Hospital appoints CNO: 6 things to know

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., has appointed Johnny Veal, MSN, BSN, RN, as its new CNO, according to a news release.

Here are six things to know about Mr. Veal.

1. Mr. Veal joined GW Hospital in May 2015 as divisional director of critical care and nursing administration.

2. He was appointed interim CNO last October, and took over the position permanently March 14.

3. Prior to joining GW Hospital, Mr. Veal was senior director of cardiac services at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Falls Church, Va.

4. He also previously worked at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, N.C., for almost 20 years, three of which he served as vice president of patient care services and CNO within the system.

5. Mr. Veal earned a master's degree in nursing administration and a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Texas Arlington.

6. He is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Nurses Association.
