Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System named Karen Murphy, RN, PhD, executive vice president, chief innovation officer and founding director of the Steele Institute for Healthcare Innovation at Geisinger.
Here are five points:
1. Dr. Murphy is the secretary of health in the Pennsylvania Department of Health. She will assume her new roles at Geisinger in September.
2. Before becoming health secretary, she was director of the State Innovation Models Initiative, a $900 million CMS initiative aimed at accelerating healthcare innovation around the country.
3. She previously served as president and CEO of Moses Taylor Health Care in Scranton, Pa.
4. Dr. Murphy holds a PhD degree in business administration from Philadelphia-based Temple University Fox School of Business and MBA degree from Marywood University in Scranton.
5. She served in the medicine department as a clinical faculty member at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
