Jeffrey Grossman, MD, has been selected to serve as interim CEO of Madison, Wis.-based UW Health.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Grossman and the leadership transition.
1. Dr. Grossman, a pulmonary and critical care physician, will lead an organization consisting of UW Hospital and Clinics, UW Medical Foundation, American Family Children's Hospital and UW Health at The American Center.
2. After holding a number of leadership positions within UW Medical School, UW Medical Foundation and UW Hospitals and Clinics, Dr. Grossman became UWMF president and CEO in April 2001. He is also the senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
3. Robert Golden, board chair of UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority and dean of UW School of Medicine and Public Health, had high praise for Dr. Grossman. "Jeff Grossman's experience and deep understanding of UW Health may be unparalleled in the organization, and he has been integrally involved with our growing network of partnerships," he said in a prepared statement. "He is ideally suited to move us forward during this time of transition. Jeff has been a visionary leader for UW Health and he will now have an opportunity to apply that vision across all of the newly integrated components of our academic health system. We are most fortunate to have his leadership during this interim period."
4. Dr. Grossman's appointment comes about a month after the UW Medical Foundation (the group of UW faculty physicians), the UWMF Board and the UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority board approved an integration plan in which UWMF is incorporated into the structure of UWHCA. The merger became effective July 1.
5. In addition to Dr. Grossman's appointment, the UW Hospital and Clinics Authority board also approved the appointment of Ron Sliwinski, who has served as the CEO and president of UW Hospitals and Clinics since the retirement of Donna Katen-Bahensky last summer, to the new leadership position of president of UW Hospitals and chief of clinical operations. The appointment of Peter Newcomer, MD, as CMO for UW Health was also approved by the board.
