Christine Cassel, MD, president and CEO of the National Quality Forum, will leave her post March 1 to join the leadership team designing the new Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine in Southern California.
Here are six things to know about Dr. Cassel.
1. She was the first woman chair at the American Board of Internal Medicine, first woman president of the American College of Physicians and the first woman dean of Portland-based Oregon Health and Science University.
2. She is an expert in geriatric medicine, medical ethics and quality of care, and has been a member of the Institute of Medicine since 1992.
3. She was one of 20 scientists chosen by President Barack Obama to serve on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
4. Dr. Cassel has led NQF since 2013.
5. During her tenure with NQF, officials said Dr. Cassel has advanced NQF's leadership in quality improvement, strengthened its membership base, diversified its funding and introduced greater innovation and efficiency to measurement endorsement, selection and science.
6. The NQF Board will begin a national search for Dr. Cassel's replacement next month.
