The University of Connecticut has named Andrew Agwunobi, MD, executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of Farmington-based UConn Health.
Here are six things to know about Mr. Agwunobi.
1. Mr. Agwunobi, who has served as UConn's interim executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UConn Health for the past year, will be permanently appointed to the role, effective Dec. 31.
2. In this position, he oversees operations on UConn Health's Farmington campus and at clinical locations throughout Connecticut — a $950 million enterprise comprising UConn's School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine.
3. Prior to joining UConn Health, Mr. Agwunobi was a director with the Berkeley Research Group, a global strategic advisory and expert consulting firm based in Emeryville, Calif.
4. Previously, he was CEO of Providence Health Care, a five-hospital region in Spokane, Wash., of Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services.
5. In addition, Mr. Agwunobi was previously president and CEO of Grady Health System in Atlanta; president and CEO of Tenet South Fulton Hospital in East Point, Ga.; COO of Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health System; and secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. He also has served as chief of the main pediatric urgent care department for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston.
6. Mr. Agwunobi received a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford (Calif.) Graduate School of Business.
