Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system permanently appointed Alexander de Nesnera, MD, and Gary S. Moak, MD, to their current posts at Concord-based New Hampshire Hospital, according to a Valley News report. Dr. de Nesnera has been serving as interim CMO and Dr. Moak as interim associate medical director since January.
Prior to their interim appointments, Dr. de Nesnera was associate medical director at NH Hospital, while Dr. Moak was the chief of geriatric psychiatry.
Dr. de Nesnera succeeds David Folks, MD, who left the CMO post in September 2016 — the same month in which New Hampshire officials approved Dartmouth-Hitchcock's proposal to take over staffing for the state psychiatric hospital.
However, NH Hospital soon came under fire for understaffing. In May, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu told hospital CEO Bob MacLeod to step down from his post, after state officials discovered only 10 psychiatrists are currently providing care at NH Hospital, even though the contract requires a total of 12 . In a formal response, Dartmouth-Hitchcock blamed the state for the staffing issues at the hospital.
Earlier this month, Dartmouth-Hitchcock and state officials reached a settlement that includes a staffing review of NH Hospital. The settlement provides for a staffing review to be funded through a no-bid $85,000 contract with Joint Commission Resources. Additionally, Dartmouth-Hitchcock will give the state a $75,000 credit.
