Knoxville, Tenn.-based Covenant Health has made multiple leadership appointments following the former CEO's transition to CEO emeritus.
Here are 10 things to know about the appointments.
Jim VanderSteeg is the new president and CEO of Covenant Health.
1. Mr. VanderSteeg previously was executive vice president of operations for Covenant Health.
2. He took over CEO responsibilities April 1, following the transition of Anthony L. "Tony" Spezia to CEO emeritus.
3. Mr. VanderSteeg joined Covenant Health in 2007 after nearly two decades in administrative and executive leadership roles at Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corp., a healthcare delivery system with 13 hospitals in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Mike Belbeck has been named executive vice president of operations.
4. Mr. Belbeck has been president and chief administrative officer of Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tenn., since 2007.
Luke Johnson has been named an executive vice president.
5. In his role, he will have leadership responsibilities for Thompson Cancer Survival Center, ambulatory retail and urgent care services, physician engagement and alignment strategies and Covenant Medical Group, and all other employed physician enterprises, Covenant Health said.
6. Previously, Mr. Johnson was senior vice president and division head of United Surgical Partners International, an ambulatory healthcare provider which owns and operates ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers and imaging centers.
Jeremy Biggs succeeds Mr. Belbeck as president and chief administrative officer of Methodist Medical Center.
7. Since 2014, Mr. Biggs has been president and chief administrative officer of Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, Tenn.
8. Mr. Biggs also previously was president and chief administrative officer of Morristown (Tenn.)-Hamblen Healthcare System and as interim chief administrative officer of Covenant's Thompson Cancer Survival Center in Knoxville.
David Bunch has been named president and chief administrative officer at Cumberland Medical Center.
9. He is former CEO of Community Health System's Heritage Medical Center in Shelbyville, Tenn.
10. He has served as a hospital CEO at various facilities operated by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, Muskegon, Mich.-based Mercy Health Partners and Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates.
