Coquille Valley Hospital names Jim Basch acting CEO in the midst of several issues

Coquille (Ore.) Valley Hospital's CEO Karen Lautermilch resigned recently, leaving the current hospital CFO, Jim Basch, to take over as acting CEO, according to a report by The World. Mr. Basch was named CFO of the hospital just five months ago, before which he served as the vice president of revenue cycle management for a medical practice solutions company in Nevada.

On Aug. 23, the hospital board named Mr. Basch acting CEO. The board meeting revealed a number of underlying issues. Douglas Crane, MD, told board members that four physicians who are going to begin providing care at the hospital haven't been properly vetted, according to the report.

Additionally, Chief of Staff Brock Millet, MD, noted that there is a nurse shortage at the hospital.

Mr. Basch faces a number of challenges as he takes the reigns at the hospital. He is slated to serve as acting CEO until the hospital finds an interim CEO, according to the report.
