Connecticut multispecialty group selects full-time, nonphysician CEO

Starling Physicians, a physician-owned multispecialty group in Rocky Hill, Conn., appointed Jim Faircloth CEO, effective Jan. 6.

Mr. Faircloth, a medical group practice executive from North Carolina, will take over for Tracy King, who has been interim CEO since Jarrod Post, MD, left in May.

Mr. Faircloth's appointment marks a change for Starling Physicians. The group and its precursors, Grove Hill and Connecticut Multispecialty Group, have had a physician serving as CEO part-time for more than 70 years, Starling said in a news release.

The group decided in June to allow a nonphysician to be at the helm.

Starling CMO Michael Posner, MD, said in the news release, "As the healthcare landscape continues to grow increasingly complex, we determined that Starling could benefit from someone at the helm full-time with a strong business background, as well as in-depth experience in the medical arena. We are thrilled to have found someone with Jim’s background and are confident that Starling will continue to thrive under his leadership."

Mr. Faircloth previously was CEO of Pinehurst (N.C.) Medical Clinic, an independent multispecialty group practice with more than 100 providers.

He has experience in creating an accountable care network as well as negotiating managed care and value-based contracts. He has worked with independent multispecialty physician group practices and health systems.

Starling launched in 2016 after the merger of Grove Hill and Connecticut Multispecialty Group, according to its website. Grove Hill was founded in 1947, while Connecticut Multispecialty Group formed in 1996.

Today, Starling has 35 locations in central Connecticut and southern Massachusetts.
