Littleton (Colo.) Adventist Hospital has a new CMO and COO.
Here are 11 things to know about the new executives.
Alan Verrill, MD, was named CMO.
1. Prior to Littleton Adventist Hospital, Dr. Verrill was division chief for the medical group and president of the medical staff at Bridgton (Maine) Hospital.
2. Along with his leadership roles, Dr. Verrill was a hospitalist at Bridgton Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston since 2003. He also co-founded the Central Maine Hospitalist service and served as the group's medical director for seven years.
3. Before moving to Maine, Dr. Verrill was a major in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps and was active duty from 1993 to 2000.
4. While on active duty, he cared for patients as an internist with the 10thMedical Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., from 1996 to 2000.
5. He earned an undergraduate degree in biology from Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Mass., and obtained his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington. Dr. Verrill completed his residency in internal medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio.
Michael "Mike" Brendel, RN, MHL, was named COO.
6. Mr. Brendel began his role in July 2015.
7. Prior to joining Littleton Adventist Hospital, he was vice president of clinical and outpatient services, and the cardiac and neuroscience service lines at Kettering (Ohio) Medical Center System, part of Kettering Health Network.
8. Previously, he was director of cardiac services at KMCS, and before that, a consultant with Fremont-Rideout Health Group.
9. Mr. Brendel has more than three decades of experience in service line and hospital operations, spending time at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, St. Francis Heart & Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis and Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, Wash.
10. He began his career as an RN at Kettering Medical Center.
11. Mr. Brendel has a bachelor's degree in healthcare management and a master's in healthcare leadership from Park University in Parkville, Mo.
