Mr. Fisher was diagnosed with lymphoma March 23, and soon after he sent an email to employees stating he would be taking a leave of absence to begin treatment immediately. Steve Davis, COO of Cincinnati Children's, stepped in as interim CEO.

Mr. Fisher told hospital employees via a video distributed Aug. 20 that he is in remission and plans on coming back to work Sept. 24 after spending some time regaining his strength.

Mr. Fisher assumed the top post at the medical center in January 2010. He oversees 15,000-plus employees at the pediatric care facility.
