Chris Champlin is the new chief strategy officer for San Francisco-based Dignity Health in the Sacramento, Calif., area, according to a Sacramento Business Journal report.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Champlin.
1. Mr. Champlin replaces Cindy Holst, who started a new job July 1 as senior director of marketing and business intelligence in Dignity Health's San Francisco headquarters.
2. In his role, Mr. Champlin will evaluate growth opportunities in the region, including mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, according to the report. His job also includes service line development and planning, strategic marketing and sales.
3. Mr. Champlin comes to the job from a similar position in Dignity Health's Central Coast service area, which includes California hospitals in Arroyo Grande, Santa Maria, Oxnard and Pleasant Valley. The health system's Sacramento service area, which Mr. Champlin will now oversee, includes six California hospitals: Mercy General in Sacramento, Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, Mercy Hospital of Folsom, Woodland Memorial Hospital and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.
4. Prior to joining Dignity Health, Mr. Champlin spent several years at WellPoint, where he was responsible for the insurer's state-sponsored business division, according to the report. During his tenure, the program grew from a start-up to more than 1 million members in California — and eventually included programs across the nation and in Puerto Rico.
5. Prior to his time at WellPoint, Mr. Champlin spent 11 years in county public health and Indian Health Service jobs.
