Broward Health names new CFO, COO on heels of exec resignations

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health tapped Alan D. Goldsmith as CFO and Gino R. Santorio as COO. The embattled health system filled the positions within the same week that three executives resigned.

Mr. Goldsmith, who assumed the CFO role on Aug. 15, most recently served as CFO at Jackson North Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Fla. Equipped with more than a decade of accounting and financial management experience, he served as director of finance and CFO at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Mr. Santorio comes to Broward from Jackson North Medical Center, where he most recently served as senior vice president and CEO. His previous roles include serving as vice president and COO of Jackson North and vice president and COO of Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and will assume his new role at Broward on Sept. 25.

Over the past week, three Broward executives have stepped down — Dionne Wong, senior vice president for human resources; Mark Sprada, interim chief executive of Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and Doris Peek, senior vice president.

Broward's recent leadership upheavals and financial difficulties have caused its S&P Global credit rating to drop, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

At an Aug. 15 board meeting, when the new hires were appointed, board members chose to look ahead, striking a more positive note.

"I read a lot of garbage out there, and I'm undaunted," said Rocky Rodriguez, board chairman, according to the Sun-Sentinel. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't hurt anymore. We're in the right direction, and we'll get this place in the right direction."
