Webster, Texas-based Bay Area Regional Medical Center CEO Tim Schmidt is leaving his post to focus on his health, according to a San Antonio Express-News report.
Here are four things to know:
1. Mr. Schmidt has suffered from cancer while serving at the helm of the medical center.
2. As CEO, he oversaw the expansion of the hospital's emergency room, heart and vascular center and operating rooms. The hospital became the first in the area to introduce the non-surgical gastric balloon procedure under his leadership.
3. His previous experience includes serving as a project CEO for Brentwood, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and CEO of Laredo (Texas) Medical Center.
4. Stephen K. Jones Jr., an executive with more than 17 years of experience as a hospital CEO, is succeeding Mr. Schmidt.
