Suzy Sonnier has been picked as executive director of the Baton Rouge (La.) Health District, according to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.
Here are four things to know about Ms. Sonnier.
1. She will be the district's first executive director.
2. As executive director, Ms. Sonnier will lead the implementation of a strategic plan for the district, which includes Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Baton Rouge General Medical Center, as well as many clinics and medical training facilities.
3. She previously was secretary of Louisiana's department of children and family services during former Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal's second term.
3. Prior to her appointment as secretary, she was COO of the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
4. According to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, Ms. Sonnier's appointment comes as the health district concept has been scrutinized by a group of community activists in north Baton Rouge, who said the city-parish should focus on the lack of healthcare options in the northern part of the city.
