Atrius Health names CMO: 6 things to know

Newton, Mass.-based Atrius Health has appointed Joe Kimura, MD, CMO.

Here are six things to know about Dr. Kimura.

1. In his role, he will help lead efforts to leverage Atrius Health's expertise in population health management and health informatics to deploy more effective and affordable ways to meet the clinical needs and service expectations of patients.

2. He has broad leadership experience, leading care delivery system process improvement, quality measurement, healthcare analytics, medical education and health services research.

3. Dr. Kimura joined Atrius Health in 2010, serving as medical director for analytics and reporting systems. He also has served as deputy CMO since 2013.

4. Previously, he was a physician leader in population health and quality improvement at Southern California Permanente Medical Group and maintained an active primary care practice at the Irvine (Calif.) Medical Office.

5. Dr. Kimura co-chairs the Office of National Coordinator HIT Policy Federal Workgroup on Advanced Health Models and Meaningful Use.

6. He is a graduate of Stanford (Calif.) University, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and Boston-based Harvard School of Public Health, now Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. In 2015, he completed the Advanced Management Program at MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Mass.
