Baligh Yehia, MD, was selected as the next president of Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health, effective Jan. 17.
Dr. Yehia will join Jefferson Health from St. Louis-based Ascension, where he has served as senior vice president, as well as president of Ascension Medical Group, according to a Dec. 13 news release. He initially joined Ascension Medical Group in 2018 as chief medical officer. He also has held leadership roles at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Veterans Affairs Department and Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania.
At Jefferson Health, Dr. Yehia will succeed Bruce Meyer, MD, who announced in November that he accepted a position with Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health overseeing payer-provider strategy.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Dr. Yehia to Jefferson and believe no one is better suited to lead Jefferson Health at this pivotal moment in healthcare," Joseph Cacchione, MD, CEO of Jefferson Health and Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University, said in the release. "Having had the opportunity to work with Dr. Yehia previously, I've witnessed firsthand his passion for improving community health, as well as his acumen for accelerating transformation and driving growth. His experience with clinical integration across complex organizations like ours will serve us well into the future."
Jefferson Health is an 18-hospital system with more than 30,000 employees.
