The American Hospital Association board of trustees has named James Hinton, president and CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, N.M., as chairman-elect for 2013.
Mr. Hinton will succeed Benjamin Chu, MD, group president of southern California and Hawaii for Sacramento, Calif.-based Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan. Dr. Chu will become AHA chairman January 1, and Mr. Hinton will assume the chairmanship in 2014.
Mr. Hinton has served as president and CEO of Presbyterian since 1995. The eight-hospital system was named one of the first Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations in December 2011.
