Iowa City-based University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has yet to fill its chief nursing officer position, according to a report by The Gazette.
The position was first advertised on Aug. 2, 2016, following the resignation of Kenneth Rempher, who left to take on the executive vice president and health system chief nurse executive at Cone Health System in Greensboro, N.C. Cindy Dawson, who previously served as director of nursing services and ambulatory nursing, has served as interim CNO since Mr. Rempher's departure.
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics engaged search firm Korn Ferry International to serve as a consultant during the CNO search process. The initial contract has been extended three times and currently runs through Dec. 31. The Gazette estimated that the organization has spent more than $140,000 on Korn Ferry International.
A nine-member search committee has "interviewed or is in the process of interviewing several candidates," a health system spokesperson told The Gazette. However, the spokesperson did not disclose specific numbers.
University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics currently includes 2,824 registered nurses, up from 2,648 during the summer.
