Joel Criste, a long-time Bay Area health leader, has been named CEO of the Bay Area-wide healthcare network being developed through a collaborative effort recently announced by University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Criste.
1. Mr. Criste will join the network as CEO effective July 13.
2. He will report to the board of directors of the network, which is chaired by Mark R. Laret, CEO of UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals.
3. He brings a strong background in managed care, the ability to grow networks and strong interpersonal skills with the healthcare community, according to a news release.
4. In his new role, Mr. Criste will be responsible for developing and implementing the new network's business plan including developing an infrastructure, ensuring financial viability of the initiative and growing the network's enrollment by partnering with health plans, the release reads.
5. He currently is CEO of Meritage Medical Network, a 700-plus physician network covering Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties of California.
