Rapid City, S.D.-based Regional Health has announced Mark Schmidt as the new president of Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital, based in Deadwood, S.D., and the Lead-Deadwood Market.
Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital and the Lead-Deadwood Market include an 18-bed critical access hospital, ambulatory care clinic and senior care facility in Lead, S.D. with 16 assisted living units and 10 independent living apartments.
Mr. Schmidt assumed his new responsibilities June 1. He succeeds Sherry Bea Smith, who will be taking on a new position with Regional Health as vice president of Hills Market Integration.
Here are four things to know about Mr. Schmidt.
1. Mr. Schmidt has more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry.
2. Most recently, Mr. Schmidt was executive director of Avera Maryhouse Long-Term Care in Pierre, S.D., an 80-bed long-term care facility and 58-unit apartment building.
3. Mr. Schmidt also previously served as executive director of Avera Gettysburg (S.D.) Hospital, a 10-bed critical access hospital, 50-bed long-term care facility and 12-unit apartment building.
4. Mr. Schmidt earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from NorthernStateUniversity in Aberdeen, S.D., and a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
