San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare President and CEO Michael W. Murphy plans to retire Feb. 28, 2019.
In addition, Sharp Healthcare's Executive Vice President of Hospital Operations Daniel L. Gross told board members he will retire in early 2020.
Here are five notes:
1. Mr. Murphy has served at the helm of the health system for 22 years.
2. During his tenure, Sharp grew from a $1 billion to a $3.5 billion organization. It also received the National Baldrige Performance of Excellence Award and several magnet designations for nursing.
3. He is on the State of California Chamber of Commerce's board of directors and served as its chairperson in 2016.
4. Sharp's board of directors will assemble a search committee and engage an executive search firm to assist with the process of finding a new leader.
5. Mr. Gross has worked at Sharp for nearly four decades. When he retires in 2020, he will have worked at the organization for 41 years.
