1st female chief of medical staff named for Southeast Georgia Health System

Janise Whitesell, MD, has been appointed as the first female chief of medical staff at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, according to a Feb. 6 press release.

Dr. Whitesell has practiced family medicine at the health system's St. Mary's location for more than two decades. In her new capacity as chief of medical staff, she will oversee expansion efforts as well as improvements and quality updates to patient care at Southeast Georgia's Camden Campus.

"Female physicians are relatable. We spend a lot of time listening in our personal lives, and several male patients have told me they prefer a female provider due to our listening skills," she said in a statement. "Being women, we are natural multitaskers and consider how an individual’s healthcare can affect all aspects of their life."

Dr. Whitesell's appointment to the role is effective immediately.
