President Samuel Moskowitz: Clinically Integrating at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center

Samuel Moskowitz has served as president of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore MOSKOWITZsince May 2012. He also serves as a senior vice president for Columbia, Md.-based MedStar Health.

Prior to joining MedStar at Franklin Square Medical Center, Mr. Moskowitz was with Baltimore-based Mercy Health Services from 1993 to 2012. He served in various senior management positions during his time at Mercy, including executive vice president and COO. During his long career with Mercy, he developed key clinical programs, such as the Weinberg Center for Women's Health & Medicine, The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital at Mercy, Institute for Care and the Posner Institute for Digestive Health.

In his first nine months at MedStar Franklin Square, Mr. Moskowitz has focused his and his team's attention on clinical physician integration and physician alignment. "I believe we will see four critical outcomes as a result: improved quality and patient safety…increased clinical and operational efficiencies, improved patient satisfaction and finally, strong financial performance," Mr. Moskowitz says. "These four outcomes are absolutely intertwined and cannot be achieved without our team united toward this vision of stronger clinical integration."

Mr. Moskowitz shares his expertise on healthcare strategic planning and new delivery models outside of MedStar as a guest lecturer. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Society for Health Care Strategy and Market Development and the Maryland Association for Healthcare Executives.

Mr. Moskowitz earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Governors State University in University Park, Ill. In 1993, he was named an Outstanding Alumnus in the College of Health Professions at Governors State.
