Joan Magruder, MBA, has served as president of St. Louis Children's Hospital, a part of BJC HealthCare System in St. Louis, since March 2013.
Ms. Magruder joined BJC in 2000 as vice president of business development, physician services and alternate care sites. She became president of Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis in May 2006, a position she held before taking over at St. Louis Children's last month.
Under her leadership, Missouri Baptist was named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Thompson Reuters, now Truven Health Analytics, in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Also, the hospital has been in the top 10 percent in patient satisfaction compared to other hospitals in the nation.
Additionally, Ms. Magruder was named to Becker's Hospital Review's list of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know when she was at the helm of Missouri Baptist in 2012.
Even though Ms. Magruder achieved much success as president of Missouri Baptist, she was excited to take her post at St. Louis Children's. "I am so honored to become the new president of one of the premier children's hospitals in the country and am looking forward to working in partnership with the St. Louis Children's employees and Washington University physicians who bring hope, healing and expert medical care to children and their families," she said in a news release. St. Louis Children's is the pediatric teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine.
Ms. Magruder earned her MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
