Nancy Vish: Instituting Hands-On Management at Baylor Heart & Vascular Hospital

Nancy Vish, RN, PhD, FACHE, president and CNO of Dallas-based Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital, has been with the hospital since 2002.

A champion of "hands-on" leadership, Dr. Vish is known for her belief in staff buy-in to keep innovations flowing from the hospital staff of 341 people.

Dr. Vish has more than 20 years of experience in nursing and management. She joined Dallas-based Baylor Healthcare System in 1995 as the program manager/director for the cardiac cath lab, EP/PM lab, coronary care unit and interventional cardiology unit at Baylor University Medical Center, also based in Dallas.Nancy VISH

Dr. Vish is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nursing, where she served as president of the Dallas chapter from 2002 to 2003, the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society, Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals, the American College of Cardiovascular Administrators, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Vascular Nurses Society.

Under her leadership, Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital has been awarded the Texas Award for Performance Excellence, the Press Ganey Summit award for three consecutive years, the 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence and Magnet designation for excellence in nursing services from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Dr. Vish holds a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master of science degree in nursing as a clinical nurse specialist in cardiovascular nursing from Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University.
