Last month, Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health promoted Ryan Kitchell to executive vice president and CFO, and the state's largest healthcare system expects Mr. Kitchell to use his previous public and private sector knowledge to steer IU Health's finances in the right direction.
Mr. Kitchell first joined IU Health in September 2010 as senior vice president and treasurer responsible for the health system's investments, capital raising, cash management and corporate real estate. In November 2011, he became president of IU Health Plans, which is a health plan that offers four Medicare Advantage options for Medicare beneficiaries living in IU Health's 32-county service area.
Before becoming a part of IU Health, Mr. Kitchell spent time at the Indiana Statehouse as the Indiana public finance director, and he eventually became the director of Indiana's Office of Management and Budget for Gov. Mitch Daniels. Mr. Kitchell also served financial roles at Eli Lilly and Company — one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the United States — and Prudential Capital Group.
As CFO, Mr. Kitchell will oversee all finances of the health system, which includes 18 hospitals, the IU Health Simon Cancer Center and the IU School of Medicine. In fiscal year 2009, IU Health received more than $264 million in grant research funding, and in 2010, IU Health invested more than $613.8 million into the surrounding communities.
