Kris Zimmer has a decade of service as senior vice president of finance and CFO of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, and he is now renowned as a federal leader on hospital finances.
Earlier this year, Mr. Zimmer was appointed to CMS' Advisory Panel on Hospital Outpatient Payment, which advises the HHS secretary and CMS administrator on how Medicare should pay hospitals for ambulatory services and to ensure quality and safety in those outpatient services. His term will run through January 2017.
"With healthcare evolving rapidly, more than 50 percent of care is now delivered in outpatient settings," Mr. Zimmer said after being appointed. "I'm excited for this opportunity to provide input into how Medicare evolves its payment policies from its current focus on inpatient care to recognizing how healthcare will be delivered in the future."
Mr. Zimmer's fiscal prowess has been a proven attribute while at SSM Health Care. Recently, Fitch Ratings affirmed SSM Health Care's "AA-" bond rating, saying the $3.1 billion health system "has historically provided a measure of credit stability." Mr. Zimmer and Fitch analysts also believe SSM Health Care should be able to achieve its 3.1 percent operating margin in fiscal year 2013.
Before joining SSM Health Care in 2003, Mr. Zimmer was CFO of Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Ky. He also has served as CFO of Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, and CFO of Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Ohio
