Darlene Rodowicz's entire professional career has been spent at Pittsfield, Mass.-based Berkshire Health Systems, and during that time, the two-hospital system has become a dominant provider in its service area.
Ms. Rodowicz joined BHS in 1984 as a staff accountant. She later became billing supervisor of BHS' physician groups, Berkshire Faculty Services, and controller of the system before being appointed CFO in 2005.
Fitch Ratings recently hailed BHS, which includes 284-bed Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., and 24-bed Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Mass. The ratings agency affirmed the health system's "BBB+" ratings and upgraded its rating outlook from stable to positive.
Fitch analysts said Ms. Rodowicz and the health system have posted strong operating financials, including an operating margin of 3.4 percent and operating EBITDA margin of 10 percent — both of which exceed Fitch's "A" category medians. BHS also has an 84 percent market share of Berkshire County and portions of eastern New York. Ms. Rodowicz has also boosted the system's liquidity, as it recorded 208.7 days cash on hand as of Feb. 28.
