Phoenix Children's Hospital CFO Craig McKnight has experienced a lot in his 30-plus years of healthcare financial management, and managing the finances of one of the largest freestanding children's hospitals in the country is one of his crowning achievements.
Mr. McKnight directs the financial operations, materials managements, revenue cycle, treasury and managed care contracting of Phoenix Children's — the only licensed children's hospital in Arizona. From fiscal year 2006 to FY 2010, Mr. McKnight helped improve the hospital's revenue and operating margin. In FY 2006, Phoenix Children's recorded a 14.4 percent operating margin, and although the margin has fallen in recent years due to higher expenses, Mr. McKnight and the financial team grew the hospital's services and revenue to hit $426 million.
Prior to joining Phoenix Children's, Mr. McKnight served as CFO of Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa and as interim CFO of Iowa Health System in Des Moines. In addition, he was CFO of Centura Health System in Englewood, Colo., and CFO of Hillcrest HealthCare System in Tulsa.
Mr. McKnight, a certified public accountant, also spent several years in healthcare accounting management with Coopers & Lybrand, one of the firms that merged into PricewaterhouseCoopers.
