Tomi Ryba has served as president and CEO of El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif., since the fall of 2011.
Prior to joining the 443-bed hospital, Ms. Ryba was president of United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., and also served as senior vice president of United Hospital's parent organization, Allina Health. Mr. Ryba has also served as COO of UCSF Medical Center from 2002 to 2009. In that role, she helped lead a $100 million turnaround and $1.5 billion expansion at its San Francisco Mission Bay campus.
In fact, Ms. Ryba counts one of her achievements at UCSF Medical Center as one of her proudest: "We were able to imagine and shape the future of Mission Bay through the planning and creation of a women's, children's and cancer medical campus that will serve generations to come," she told the Silicon Valley Business Journal in 2012.
She also has big plans for El Camino Hospital. She told the Silicon Valley Business Journal her five-year goal in her role as the hospital's CEO would involve big changes. "[I] would love to be part of a bold, broad strategy to help people stay well and to ensure we activate ownership of healthy lifestyles, the goal being to improve quality of life to the fullest extent possible."
Ms. Ryba is active in the healthcare arena outside her role at El Camino. She started serving as a member of the board of directors of Premier since its inception in May 2013, for instance.
Her excellence in leadership has not gone unnoticed, as she has been named Woman of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Times and received the Twin Award for Leadership by the Silicon Valley YWCA.
Ms. Ryba earned a master's degree in health administration from Chapman University.
