Tim Rice, FACHE, has served as CEO of Cone Health in Greensboro, N.C., since April 2012. He served as the system's president and CEO from 2004 on, and as COO from 2001 to 2004.
Before becoming COO, Mr. Rice was the executive vice president of The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., and executive vice president of Cone Health's health services division.
Under Mr. Rice's leadership, Cone Health backed an accountable care organization, the Triad HealthCare Network, which was approved to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program in spring of 2012. "I believe it's better care, and I believe it will be more cost-effective care," Mr. Rice said in The Business Journal about accountable care.
Mr. Rice is involved both in the healthcare arena and Cone Health's community. He serves on the boards of the North Carolina Hospital Association, The Joint Commission, the National Center for Healthcare Leadership, the VHA Central Atlantic Board and the Southern Atlantic Healthcare Alliance. Outside of healthcare, he serves on the boards of the Greensboro Partnership, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the Piedmont Triad Partnership and NC A&T State University.
In recognition of his history of strong leadership at Cone Health, Becker's Hospital Review named Mr. Rice on its list of 100 Non-Profit Hospital, Health System CEOs to Know and its list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know in 2012.
Mr. Rice earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Duke University in Durham, N.C.
