Thomas J. Strauss joined Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System, one of the state's largest integrated healthcare delivery systems, in 1999.
Prior to joining Summa Health, Mr. Strauss served in various leadership roles at Meridia in Ohio, a system he was with for 10 years.
Mr. Strauss has led Summa Health through many changes during his tenure with Summa, including when the system joined the Medicare Shared Savings program as an accountable care organization in 2012. Another large change happened this year with Mr. Strauss at the helm: Summa announced a plan to form a strategic partnership with Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners in February 2013. "I believe CHP shares our view that the way healthcare is delivered in our nation must change," he said in a news release. "At Summa, we are well positioned for future success, but together with CHP, I believe that we can truly be transformational."
Outside his time spent leading Summa Health, Mr. Strauss is involved in the healthcare and local communities. For instance, he has served as chairman of the Greater Akron Chamber board of directors and a board member of the Akron Regional Hospital Association, Akron Tomorrow and the Habitat for Humanity of Summit County.
Mr. Strauss earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and completed his residency in pharmacology at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
