Karen Barber has served as CEO of Yoakum (Texas) Community Hospital since 2006. Ms. Barber originally joined the hospital as a nurse in 1992.
Since Ms. Barber took the reins at the 25-bed hospital, which is owned by Community Hospital Corp., the facility has made great strides. For instance, Yoakum Community Hospital has added physicians and new services and implemented an electronic health record system.
Yoakum Community Hospital has been recognized several times for excellence with Ms. Barber at the helm. In 2012, the hospital received the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Bronze Award. This year, the hospital received the Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades and was named to Becker's Hospital Review's list of "100 Great Community Hospitals."
"We focus every day on serving neighbors in Yoakum and the surrounding area as we have for over 90 years. I congratulate our leadership, physicians and entire staff for working together to serve the community," Ms. Barber told the Victoria Advocate after being named to the Becker's Hospital Review list.
Ms. Barber's leadership prowess at Yoakum has not gone unnoticed: In 2010, she was awarded the Texas Hospital Association's Pioneer Award, which recognizes excellence in rural hospital management.
