Jim Brown has been CEO of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land (Texas) Hospital since June 2007. Mr. Brown has 12 years of executive-level experience in faith-based, non-profit and for-profit hospitals. His experience has enabled him to be an integral force to the cultural transformations and financial strength of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. He has demonstrated clear strategic vision and sound operational discipline.
"During my first five years as a hospital executive, I was deeply involved in strategic planning, physician recruitment and marketing. I also had significant exposure to the workings of the medical staff governance and committee structure," says Mr. Brown. "Key principles that I have incorporated into [Memorial Hermann Sugar Land's] culture include 'management by metrics' and transparency. From all my experiences, I have seen the value of a collaborative relationship with the hospital's medical staff."
Under Mr. Brown's leadership, Memorial Hermann Sugar Land has remained competitive in a market that has grown from 300 to 700 beds. Mr. Brown also improved physician satisfaction to the 94th percentile nationally for two consecutive years. Additionally, Sugar Land has received numerous recognitions for its clinical excellence since Mr. Brown's appointment. It as one of the Joint Commission's "top performers" in 2011, a Thomson Reuter 100 top hospital in 2011 and 2012 and one of the five national finalists for the 2010 McKesson-AHA Quest for Quality Prize.
Mr. Brown secured approximately $13 million in capital and oversaw the construction of two interventional labs, five associated pre- and post-procedure beds and the expansion of four operating rooms for the Memorial Hermann system. He also implemented a hospitalist program at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and piloted Memorial Hermann Health System's first medical home network.
Prior to serving Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, Mr. Brown served as COO of Doctors Hospital of Dallas and as COO of Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, N.M. Prior to that, he served as vice president of CHRISTUS St. Joseph's Health System.
