Doug Cropper has served as president and CEO of Genesis Health System in Davenport, Iowa, since 2008.
Mr. Cropper started his healthcare career as an operating room orderly. He now has more than 28 years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining Genesis, Mr. Cropper served as an executive vice president for Falls Church, Va.-based Inova Health System. He also served as campus administrator of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church during that time.
At Genesis, Mr. Cropper has made changes to lead the system to success under healthcare reform. For instance, the system recently formed Genesis Philanthropy, a new fundraising and grant-making arm of the system devoted solely to population health initiatives. "Engaging patients in improving their own health, and educating and encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles, is no small task," Mr. Cropper said in a news release. "Finding the resources to invest in population health strategies can be as challenging as changing the delivery of care. That's why I'm so enthused about Genesis Philanthropy."
Outside of his commitment to Genesis Health, Mr. Cropper is an Eagle Scout and donates his time to the Boy Scouts of America. In fact, under Mr. Cropper's guidance, the system has hosted Boy Scouts from Iowa and Illinois for a Merit Badge Clinic to help the scouts earn their first aid merit badges.
Mr. Cropper earned a master's degree in healthcare and hospital administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
