Delos "Toby" Cosgrove, MD, is president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

As CEO, Dr. Cosgrove oversees a $5 billion healthcare system consisting of Cleveland Clinic, nine community hospitals, 15 family health and ambulatory surgery centers, Cleveland Clinic Florida, the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, Cleveland Clinic Toronto and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Cosgrove focuses on improving healthcare at Cleveland Clinic by improving quality, reducing costs and increasing system integration — elements he believes are essential for reducing healthcare fragmentation and differentiation across regions.

His background as a surgeon has given him poignant insight into patient care, the patient experience and how the healthcare system can, and needs to, improve. He uses his knowledge and experience to be an advocate for improving healthcare delivery.

Dr. Cosgrove has published nearly 450 journal articles, book chapters, one book and 17 training and continuing medical education films. He is a sought-after speaker worldwide and has addressed international committees and forums. Dr. Cosgrove is also regularly quoted and featured in national news. He has been recognized for his work with multiple awards including the Cleveland Clinic's Master Clinician Award, Innovator of the Year Award and Lerner Humanitarian Award as well as the Woodrow Wilson Center Award for Public Service.

Before serving as Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Cosgrove was a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. He joined Cleveland Clinic in 1975 and was named chair of the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Under his leadership, the Clinic's heart program was ranked number one nationally ten years in a row.
