Dean Harrison is the president and CEO of Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, the parent company of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Foundation and Prentice Women's Hospital — all in Chicago — and Northwestern Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital.
As president and CEO, Mr. Harrison has played an integral role in developing Northwestern Medicine, a joint strategic plan between Northwestern Memorial and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Under the plan, the medical school and the health system will align to create one of the nation's safest hospitals, advance research and its application to patient care and become one of the most sought-after teaching programs for the next generation of physicians, healthcare professionals and scientists.
Mr. Harrison has received many awards for his leadership excellence. In 2008, B'nai B'rith International, a Jewish humanitarian, human rights and advocacy organization, honored him with the National Healthcare Award. The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency and the Chicago Minority Enterprise Development Council honored Mr. Harrison with the 2010 CEO Leadership Circle of Excellence Award for Diversity.
Before joining Northwestern Memorial in July 1998 as senior vice president of corporate operations, Mr. Harrison was president and COO of the University of Chicago Health System.
Mr. Harrison currently serves on the member board of directors of the University HealthSystem Consortium, the board of directors of United Way Metropolitan Chicago and the board of directors of the Illinois Hospital Association and is a special advisor to Merrick Ventures. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, The Commercial Club of Chicago, the World President's Organization, the Institute of Medicine of Chicago and the Business Leadership Group for Workforce Chicago 2.0.
