Carol L. Garikes Schneider has served as president and CEO of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago since May.
"I am honored to join the Mercy ministry and I look forward to collaborating with the board, medical staff and Mercy associates to provide excellent care to patients and families that we are so privileged to serve," Ms. Schneider said upon her appointment in a news release.
Before taking the helm at Mercy Hospital, Ms. Schneider was the system COO of Cook County Health & Hospitals System in Chicago. In that position, she implemented executive financial enhancements and designed the patient experience culture transformation to help the system prepare for healthcare reform. Additionally, she helped John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital receive a three-year accreditation from The Joint Committee.
Ms. Schneider has more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, and started her healthcare career at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., and served as the medical center's president for 10 years.
Not only does Ms. Schneider lead Mercy Hospital, she is also a full professor at Lewis University, where she teaches healthcare leadership, management, quality and business ethics. Additionally, she is active in area nonprofit boards and professional associations.
Ms. Schneider earned a MBA from DePaul University in Chicago.
