Most of the nation's physicians use mobile technology — a Kantar Media survey shows 78 percent of physicians use smartphones and 51 percent use tablets in their professional lives. But what are they using mobile technology for?
Results from the 3rd Annual HIMSS Analytics Mobile Survey shine light on the issue. The survey includes responses from 170 individuals, including healthcare organization IT executives and clinicians.
Respondents were asked to indicate the purposes for which clinicians in their organization use mobile technology. The following are the top five uses.
1. View patient information: 69.41 percent
2. Look up non-PHI health information: 64.71 percent
3. Use for education or training purposes: 48.82 percent
4. Clinical notifications: 41.76 percent
5. Secure communications regarding patients: 39.41 percent
Clinicians are least likely to use mobile technology to facilitate remote patient monitoring, according to the report, as just 20 percent of respondents said clinicians used it for this purpose.
