The White House has announced plans to launch the U.S. Digital Service, a collaborative team aimed to improve government websites and update the government's technology infrastructure.
The launching of the U.S. Digital Service follows intensive controversy over glitch-ridden rollout of HealthCare.gov last year. Mikey Dickerson, a former Google engineer, will serve as administrator of the U.S. Digital Service and deputy federal CIO, according to a White House press release.
Mr. Dickerson took leave from Google to help fix the federal exchanges, according to a Wall Street Journal report. He now will lead the team on its core mission "to improve and simplify the digital experience that people and business have with their government," according to the White House release.
Plans for the USDS include bringing the government's digital services to the same level as private sector services, scale services effectively, work with agencies to develop and implement citizen-facing services and provide accountability to make sure agencies are seeing results, according to the release.
