WebMD Launches Health, Fitness App, Joins Apple, Google

WebMD has launched WebMD Healthy Target, an app targeted to help people efficiently manage chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes.

The app makes use of biometric data collected from activity trackers and scales, including third party devices, and compiles the data into user-friendly renderings.

"WebMD's Healthy Target empowers consumers to make behavioral changes that can improve their physical and mental health, said Michael Smith, MD, chief medical editor at WebMD, in the report. "To achieve successful, sustainable behavioral change, consumers must learn how to track and manage the factors that contribute to healthy living."

WebMD's app unveiling closely follows the recent launch of Apple's HealthKit and Google Fit, both of which aggregate health and fitness data to provide a comprehensive view of a user's health status and overall wellness. Samsung, too, announced a new vision for mHealth, including new apps and a focus on wearable sensors and devices.
