VHA, Kaiser Permanente Partner on Data Analytics, Connected Care

Combined, the Veterans Health Administration and Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente provide care to almost 18 million people across the country. A recently announced partnership will see the two organizations combine their data and resources to improve patient care while developing best practices in a changing industry.

The partnership will focus on four areas: connected and virtual care, genomics, care of patients shared between Kaiser Permanente and the VHA and advanced data analytics to develop actionable information and improve population health.

"Kaiser Permanente is proud to expand our collaboration with VHA and tackle some of the biggest challenges in the areas of health care delivery, patient engagement and spreading best practices, said Jed Weissberg, MD, senior vice president, of hospitals, quality and care delivery excellence at Kaiser Permanente, in a news release.

"The Department of Veterans Affairs continuously seeks opportunities for collaboration with the private sector and the Department of Defense to enhance care for veterans," said Madhulika Agarwal, MD, deputy undersecretary for health for policy and services for the VA, in a news release. "We are proud to join in this mutually beneficial partnership with Kaiser Permanente; together we will focus on enhanced coordination of care for our veteran patients, connected health care as well as advanced analytics and genomic medicine."
