Veterans Affairs Launches mHealth Pilot Programs

The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the launch of two mHealth pilot programs.

Under the Family Caregiver Pilot, iPads have been distributed to 1,000 caregivers of post-Sept. 11 veterans enrolled in the Family Caregiver Program. A suite of apps on the iPads allow veterans and caregivers to access and share personal health information, as well as learn about treatment and condition management options.

The Veteran Appointment Request Web App Pilot, recently launched at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and the VA Palo Alto (Calif.) Health Care System, will allow more than 600 veterans to schedule primary care and mental health appointments online using either computers or mobile devices.
